AGC Houston's 34th Annual BBQ Cook-Off

AGC Houston Brings the Heat at Its 34th Annual BBQ Cook-Off
AGC Houston’s 34th Annual BBQ Cook Off brought together Houston’s commercial construction industry for two days of great food and friendly competition on April 17 and 18 at the Fort Bend County Fairgrounds.
On Friday, Linbeck Group, LLC took first place in both Best Theme and Best Hospitality, while Hays Electrical Services earned second place in both categories. Building Concrete Solutions placed third in Best Hospitality, and Derryberry’s Mechanical and Marsh McLennan Agency, competing as one team, placed third in Best Theme. Hoar Construction also took home the 2026 People’s Choice award. With 28 teams competing in the sanctioned BBQ competition, the momentum carried into day two as judges prepared to sample some of the best BBQ around.
Beyond the competition, this year’s cook off raised funds for Camp Hope, a nonprofit organization that provides a caring and supportive environment for soldiers, veterans, and their families as they receive treatment for combat related PTSD. As an added incentive, the cook team that raised the most funds earned a free spot at next year’s event. This year, Hoar Construction and Linbeck Group tied for the top fundraising honor and secured the coveted cook space for next year.
As always, the event would not be possible without the support of AGC Houston’s members. The Ralph Morton Spirit Award, given to an individual who goes above and beyond to help bring the event together, was presented to Nathan Kolbaba of Encore Concrete Construction. Thank you for all that you do, Nathan! We are truly grateful for your support.
