The rules applicable to the construction industry are some of the most complex sales and use tax rules in Texas. Understanding these rules is critical to ensuring compliance with the Texas Comptroller and avoiding assessments that can greatly impact profitability of a project. This training seminar is designed to help navigate and understand contractor rules and the sales and use tax treatment of construction projects, including differences between new construction and repair/remodeling, residential v. non-residential, and taxable v. exempt customers. This training session will also provide guidance regarding receiving and issuing exemption certificates and best practices for documentation for sales and use tax audits. While sales tax is typically considered a function of accounting, it is equally important that salespeople, estimators, purchasers, and project managers understand the sales tax implications and impacts on job pricing and profit.
Target Audience:
Project team members including but not limited to construction accounting staff, salespeople, contract and project managers and estimators to help navigate and comply with various State of Texas tax laws.
Presenter:
Riley and Hunter Epps, State Tax Advisors
