This competition inspires high school students to explore careers in the construction industry, shaping the next generation of builders and innovators.

At the Industry Lunch, we will recognize high school teams participating in the CIEF Design Build Competition, congratulate our most recent scholarship recipients, and celebrate the workforce development efforts of the construction industry.

The 2026 APEX Awards Call To Entry Is Officially Open!

 

General Contractors and Specialty Contractors: Enter Your Exceptional Construction Projects In The APEX Awards!

 

Deadline for Entries:

Entries must be completed by 5:00 PM on May 1, 2026. All incomplete submissions need to be submitted and paid for by this date. Entries will not be accepted after this time.

 

Eligibility:

Members (General Contractors and Specialty Contractors) of the Houston Chapter, Associated General Contractors may submit any project(s) completed between April 1, 2024 and March 31, 2026.

 

Projects submitted must be located in the AGC Houston Chapter territory. Counties include Austin, Brazoria, Brazos, Chambers, Colorado, Fort Bend, Freestone, Galveston, Grimes, Harris, Houston, Leon, Madison, Matagorda, Montgomery, Polk, Robertson, San Jacinto, Trinity, Walker, Waller, Washington, Wharton and the west half of Liberty.

 

To begin the submission process, you will need to create an OpenWater account. If you participated in the 2024 APEX Awards, you can use the same login.

 

Submission Criteria:

Projects will be evaluated according to the following criteria:

  • Contribution to the community and/or environment
  • Safety record
  • Quality of the management process in serving the client
  • Completion within time and budget factors
  • Challenges presented/addressed
  • Why this project should be considered for an award

The American Red Cross Adult CPR, First Aid, and AED class is designed to equip participants with the skills and knowledge to respond to a variety of emergencies, including:

 

  • CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation): Learn how to perform CPR on adults, including chest compressions and rescue breaths, to help maintain blood flow and breathing during cardiac emergencies.
  • First Aid: Gain the ability to recognize and care for various first aid emergencies such as burns, cuts, scrapes, sudden illnesses, head, neck, and back injuries, as well as heat and cold-related emergencies.
  • AED (Automated External Defibrillator): Understand how to use an AED to deliver a shock to a person experiencing sudden cardiac arrest, which can help restore a normal heart rhythm.

 

This course combines instructor-led training with hands-on practice. Upon successful completion, participants will receive updated credentials that meet OSHA workplace requirements.

Led by Construction Attorney Shannon Gatlin of Cokinos | Young, this program is designed for anyone who works in the construction industry, such as supervisors, managers, HR or safety professionals. You will gain valuable knowledge and skills that will help you comply with the law and create a supportive and productive work environment for your employees.

In this two-hour virtual program, you will get a refresher on the basics of employment law and HR, including how to handle employee issues, leave requests, and disciplinary actions. You will also learn about the best practices and policies to protect your company from legal risks and liabilities.
